One of my favorite movies of all time is 1987’s Dragnet. Now for you movie elitist dick wads out there it’s guaranteed to not be in your top 500. I’m fine with that. My other favorite movie of all time is Airheads, so you see where my level of sophistication lies when it comes to film.

Moving on.

So what makes Dragnet a great movie is, well, all aspects of it. You have a classic TV series, the 1980s, Tom Hanks, Dan Akroyd, drugs, the brown derby, Jack O’Halloran, good cop/bad cop, and the LAPD. What does all of this mean? Well, not much unless your name is Joe Fearnley.

I came across this video the other day and damn near fell out of my chair. Partly because of laughter and partly because of how ridiculous this is. It reminded me of that microsoft office promotional video from the early nighties where the white scientist guy raps. Its like everyone wanted to get in on the action. Even goldie hawn.

Even though the boss kind of didn’t know the words to the song, this is pretty goddamn cool. Well, to me, at least.

sunday social #39 - fathers, summer, and piton

So over the last two weeks the summer has officially (not technically) come full circle. Kate turned 31, my old man had another day of glory, and I put down some new seed in hopes that grass will grow. That is not a euphemism but an actual fact. The thing is, the longer the days of a home owner go, the less I give a shit about what my yard looks like. Or maybe the reverse. I haven’t figure that out yet. Love…hate.

In other news, my june-years resolutions are coming along with a half heart. One half is all about learning how to program in python and the other is not about losing weight. I have another entry on python coming, so sit tight and don’t expect too much. The third (of a half?) is this musical agenda that, giving some time, will pan out. Monday starts in a matter of hours and I will be twenty-seven by the end of the week. Fuck i’m old (you may get that reference if you are twenty-five).

Live blogging from the brown out is one thing and following through with your goals is another.

In other other news, a big part of pop culture from the seventies and eighties passed on over the course of this last week. I remember when my sister gave me her no longer used copy of BAD. Ah the thoughts of less complicated days. When I first heard the news, the first thing that popped into my head was my sister telling me when she got to stay up late and watch television when mike did the moonwalk for the first time. Rocked her world apparently. The second in line to Elvis, nuff said. I will leave you with this….

Oh, and come to find out, bubbles has his own wikipedia page. Who knew?
